Shave the Beard Challenge 2021

Bill Manning, co-founder of Hidden Springs Mission, has agreed to shave off his beard if we get 50 members to join our giving community, The Collective, at $50/month between now and June 5th!

Already a part of The Collective? Any increase in current monthly donations will count toward this challenge as well!

Bill will shave off his beard during our annual Gathering at First Church Ministries in Newport News, VA on June 5th at 5:30pm. {This event will be live-streamed.} We hope to see you there!

Thanks so much to those of you who are already part of our giving community! We couldn’t be here or do this work without you…

Why Join The Collective?

As you know,

  • 24% of houses in the area are habitable.
  • 60% do not have electricity in their homes.
  • the majority of people do not have access to potable running water.

Our work at Hidden Springs Mission is specifically focused on helping change this narrative and bring about a sustainable future for our work & the community we serve.

Your recurring gift & regular prayer is vital to making this mission possible.

In 2021, we are focused on the following specific projects and goals:

  • We are focused on being 100% funded so that we can invest our whole selves in the work that we moved here for. This means we are looking to add at least 100 members to our collective by the end of 2021!
  • We are currently implementing a complete renovation to the bunkhouses so that we can be more effective in hosting incoming mission groups, work teams, camps, etc. We need to expand our facility to host groups of 30 or more. This will take place in two phases. Phase 1 will include completely redoing the plumbing, replacing the floors due to years of leaks, and weatherizing the walls and ceilings. Phase 2 will involve building an addition to the bunkhouse.
  • Our facility improvements are key in making our partnership with Moonshot Missions effective. Hidden Springs will be the pilot site for four water filtration systems providing clean water to our neighbors in 2021. As you might know, Moonshot Missions works with underserved communities like ours to customize water projects to ensure that its members have access to clean water.
  • Shade is essential when you live in the desert. The church has been without a pavilion for a few years and the effect has been felt by those attending VBS, youth campouts, church camp meetings – as well as our visiting work/volunteer groups. Because of this, we have plans to construct an outdoor pavilion to provide much needed shelter during the summer months.
  • Basketball is king on the Rez – check out Basketball or Nothing on Netflix, and you’ll see what we mean! We want to build a concrete basketball court for the community here at Hidden Springs. There is nothing like this in our area. This addition would be an amazing place to develop current relationships and meet new people. It will also be a great asset to groups coming out on mission trips.
  • We are excited about starting an annual week-long adventure camp for middle & high school students next summer including camping, jet skiing, ziplining, ropes courses, paintball, e-sports, etc. Because it can be financially difficult for families to send their children to these types of camps, funds will be directed to full + partial scholarships for kids in our community. Funds will also be used to purchase supplies & rent facilities. Summer camps are the perfect place to build relationships, have discussions about God + life and to create lifelong memories.

You can help bring about a sustainable future for our work and the community we serve by joining our giving community for $50/month (or more!) AND watch Bill shave off his beard during our Gathering on June 5th!
